Airboard is built so your voice stays on your Mac. This page explains what does and doesn't leave it.

Your voice and your words

Speech recognition runs entirely on your Mac. Audio is never uploaded, and the text you dictate is never sent to us.

What the app connects to

  • Speech model download. On first launch Airboard downloads its speech model (about 1 GB) once. After that, dictation works offline.
  • Update checks. Airboard checks GitHub for new versions. Like any web request, this shares your IP address with GitHub.
  • Anonymous performance stats. Release builds send timing numbers (how long transcription took, for example) and success or failure flags through TelemetryDeck. They never include anything you dictate. You can turn this off with "Share anonymous performance stats" in the Performance window.
  • Optional AI features. Some features, like asking the Assistant a question, use an OpenRouter key that you add yourself. They're off until you set them up. When you use one, the text it needs is sent to OpenRouter under your own account and their privacy policy.
